Provenance:

Leopold John Bernays was a clerk in holy orders. He was born on 28 December 1820. He was the son of Adolphus Bernays (professor, Kings College London)and Martha Arrowsmith. He married Mary, daughter of John Gorton, on 20 June 1846 at St. Thomas Chapel, Hackney. He was the officiating minister at several family weddings and by the early 1860s was vicar for Stanmore in Middlesex. The memorial Hall in Stanmore that still stands was built in 1870 for his son Ernest who drowned whilst travelling in Switzerland in 1848. Leopold died on 25 October 1882 at the rectory in Great Stanmore, Middlesex, England, at age 61.

Richard Cockle Lucas was a sculptor and wax modeler of some distinction exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy from 1829-1859. His work can be found in many national and private collections.
