This charming portrait drawing of a young lady wearing Turkish styled headwear shows the noticeable influence of the great neo-classical artist Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807). The swept hair and distinct profile, strongly defined, all echo the influence of the classical world which was at it’s height in the arts at the end of the eighteenth century.

The portraits of Kauffmann as well as Sir Joshua Reynolds were highly inspirational to many amateur artists working around the period and the drawing presented here is one such example, dating from 1801.
