Painted by an unknown artist of the period, we only have his initials on the reverse of the canvas, it displays similarities of approach to the work of Louis-Leopold Boilly (1761-1845), in that it is an intimate and intense study of a characterful individual. His style of clothes and hair indicate an approximate dateline on the cusp of the 19th century and therefore at the start of the Napoleonic period of order in France.
The portrait is in complete, original, unrestored and good condition.
