Miles Barton is a dealer in period paintings from the 17th through to
the early 19th centuries. Concentrating particularly on
portraiture, at any given time available works might include a Stuart
courtier or a Napoleonic officer. By being diverse within a specialist
field he has been able to regularly provide works for both private
collectors and institutions whether they be oil paintings, drawings,
pastels, or engravings. Through the London outlet in the famous Portobello
Road, most works are available for viewing at the weekend, as well as
during the week by appointment.
Recent discoveries have included works by major artists such as Gerrit van
Honthorst, Sir Godfrey Kneller, Mary Beale and John Riley, to name but a
few. The ever changing stock also covers less well known painters,
including outstanding examples by unknown hands. If you are after
something particular then please make contact. A good selection of the
type of works handled can be viewed through the sold pages. Offering a
high level of service, including historical research and authentication,
clients can buy with confidence from the range of pictures, and
occasionally other complimentary works of art, offered in the catalogue.
