Graduating with a degree in History & Art, Miles Barton was an auction specialist at both Phillips and Sotheby's in central London. For over twenty years he has been professionally evaluating, researching and cataloguing art and antiques. Together with a broad knowledge of historical periods, particularly the 18th century, this has favoured a career that includes archive work at the Witt Library, Courtauld Institute of Art, London, historical research for period films, notably Academy Award winner The Madness of King George, and an online fine art information company.
He has lectured at the Sotheby’s Institute, given talks on aspects of art history and assisted various radio and television programmes, as well as the national press. He is author of Hollywood Movie Posters 1914-1990 and a contributory author to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and Judith Millers Dictionary of Antiques & Collectables. He is a member of various organisations including the Portobello Antiques Dealers Association (PADA), the Georgian Group, and the Walpole Society, an academic organisation dedicated to the study and research of British Art.
